Robert Shapiro will share a historical account of Theodore Roosevelt and the Progressive Movement.

In this informative and entertaining lecture, Robert Shapiro will discuss how Theodore Roosevelt (Class of 1880) as an Assemblyman,  Police Commissioner, Governor and as President, repeatedly forced the leaders of the Republican Old Guard to compromise their opposition to his social and economic views which enabled him to advance the reforms of the Progressive Movement. 

Brief Bio of Robert Shapiro: 

Robert Shapiro is an attorney and educator with an A.M. and Ph.D. in History from Harvard where he was a Charles Warren Scholar in American History. He also holds a J.D. from the Stanford Law School where he was an Associate Editor of The Stanford Law Review. Dr. Shapiro was a Teaching Fellow at Harvard, a Visiting Lecturer at Tufts, a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Hartford, and more recently a Visiting Lecturer at Florida Atlantic University. His Harvard dissertation, A Reform Rabbi in the Progressive Era: The Early Career of Stephen S. Wise,was published by Garland Publishing. Robert Shapiro is currently working in the Philadelphia office of an Atlanta law firm.
