You may already know that the first written mention of Scotch whiskey is in the Exchequer Rolls of Scotland in 1495 in connection with a friar named John Cor, a distiller at Lindores Abbey in the Kingdom of Fife.  But have you ever wondered what is the difference between "single malt" and "single barrel" scotches?  Or how old is the youngest spirit in a twelve-year-old blend?  Or what to expect from a Glenmorangie versus a Glenfiddich or a Glenlivet?  

An informed and entertaining "Scotch Sommelier" will take us on a virtual tour of Scotland and share interesting stories and insights.  This journey will include samplings of a variety of six to eight scotches designed to illustrate the differences and unique characteristics of this familiar, yet often mysterious, spirit.  There will be some surprises along the way and the evening will conclude with samplings of some fine rums and/or bourbons plus a few door prizes.  

To be clear, "tastings" will consist of relatively small quantities.  In keeping with the practice of true scotch aficionados, such samples will be mixed with spring water to "open them up" and enhance their bouquets and flavors.  Unless simply the smell of a cork makes you "tipsy", you should have no problems with the quantities that we will be consuming that evening.  Further, as indicated above, we will be starting the evening with deli sandwiches for those who will not have had the opportunity to enjoy dinner beforehand.

This is a Harvard alumni only event.  Registration for this event will be LIMITED TO TWELVE SPACES and be RESTRICTED TO DUES PAYING MEMBERS of the Harvard Club of Princeton through March 15th. After that date and if space permits, registration will be opened to all Harvard alumni. 

Come early and stay late.  We guarantee plenty of food, interesting conversation, and an enlightening experience.
